Overview

The Institute Director manages a center of learning that offers intensive English, academic preparation, and cross-cultural orientation programs to university-bound international students and professionals. Following the INTERLINK guiding principles, the director ensures proper implementation of the curriculum. Responsible for oversight of the Institute, the director makes institutional policy recommendations in conjunction with colleagues throughout INTERLINK. 

The Director represents and stewards the reputation of INTERLINK on campus, in the community, and internationally. In addition to academic and program accreditation responsibilities, the Institute Director has several ongoing administrative duties, which include:

  1. Overseeing the Institute’s performance
  2. Maintaining the INTERLINK contract and agreements with the University
  3. Developing relationships with University administrators and the wider community
  4. Using resources prudently

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated leadership in language or international education programs
  • Master’s degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or Management
  • ESL/EFL teaching experience
  • Superior communication skills: verbal, written, interpersonal, and cross-cultural

Preferred Experience

  • Familiarity with innovative curricula that are project-based, experiential, needs-based
  • Teacher training and supervision
  • Cross-cultural training 
  • Student recruitment
  • Curriculum design and implementation 
  • Second language proficiency and living experience abroad
  • Peace Corps or AmeriCorps service
  • Service to the field of international education (association leadership, publication, presentation)

Responsibilities

1.   Leadership

  • Promote the INTERLINK learning-centered vision among all on campus
  • Create a community of effective practitioners focused on student success
  • Foster good morale among faculty and staff
  • Inspire employees to operate at a high level of thought and performance
  • Establish cordial relations with partner university colleagues and members of the larger community
  • Stay apprised of relevant national and international events, trends, and developments
  • Remain up-to-date on trends and developments in the field

2. Management

  • Hire, supervise, and provide ongoing training for faculty and administrators
  • Assure curriculum quality through training, observation, and supervision
  • Conduct performance-based reviews and manage employee contracts
  • Expand and diversify student enrollment
  • Respond with alacrity to calls, requests, and correspondence 
  • Ensure student well-being and success
  • Implement the INTERLINK learning-centered approach
  • Oversee staff precision in record-keeping and punctuality in reporting

3. Partner Institution Collaboration

  • Develop initiatives with the partner institution to improve student services and promote student integration on campus
  • Participate in the making and conduct of University policies and practices regarding international education, particularly those affecting the INTERLINK partnership.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to diversify and expand enrollment 
  • Align INTERLINK’s marketing activities with the partner university’s
  • Work closely with department heads in attracting students to the campus
  • Maintain statistical data on INTERLINK grads enrolled at the partner university

4. Student Recruitment

  • Provide institute-specific content (photos and activity/event descriptions) for use on social media and in other marketing materials
  • Establish rapport with contracted, active agents enrolling students in the program
  • Assist with alumni engagement activities
